Milo & Gabby was founded by a husband and wife team of product designers. Inspired by their four children and two beloved family pets they set out to create pillowcases that would transform pillows from average to extraordinary. The result was the adorable line of Cozy Companion Pillowcases, six animal-shaped, 100% cotton pillowcases that blend two favorite things; stuffed animals and children's favorite pillows - just the right combination for a dreamy nights sleep.
While designing a smaller version of the pillowcases a new line of pillow purses was created. Soft and cuddly Carry Alongs designed to comfort kids and captivate their imagination… at home or on the go.
Our unique blend of fun and functional products meet two of the most essential and timeless needs of children and their families. Cozy Companions combine the cuddly-comfort of a childhood “best friend/buddy” with the practical “at-home and on-the-go” function families appreciate. Children form immediate, enduring attachments to their Cozy Companion as they quickly become their favorite “go-everywhere” choice.
The following is an interview with Milo & Gabby's chief designer, Karen Keller.
Q. Tell us where your unique ideas come from.
A. "My powers of observation may be my most powerful idea-generating tool. I have closely observed what kids gravitate toward, what they love and what dynamics are at work when they are thriving, nurtured and happy, in a wide array of situations. Having four children of my own, I have had the opportunity to be intimately involved in the lives of kids, my own and their many friends, for over 20 years,“ continues Karen from her Seattle design-studio overlooking Elliott Bay.
Q. What inspires you?
A. “I draw inspiration from classic childhood imagery and iconography. I cross-pollinate from my experiential and visual library of classic authors such as Beatrice Potter and A.A. Milne, and contemporary illustrators like James Stevenson and Charles Schultz.
These childhood icons have inspired and influenced hundreds of products we enjoy today. The universal accessibility of Beatrice Potter’s stories and the powerfully memorable imagery of the sublime simplicity employed by illustrators such as Charles Schultz, have been lifelong inspirations for me,” continued Karen.
Influenced by her passion for sewing, textiles, sculpture and color, coupled with her love of children, Karen’s inspired development of Milo & Gabby’s category-innovative, fun and functional products continue to comfort kids and ignite their imaginations.
